Antenatal & Postnatal Care

The care of pregnant women, newly delivered women and newborn babies is shared between the practice, community midwives, the health visitor and consultant led hospital clinics. You may see any of the doctors at the practice for pre-conception advice or advice in early pregnancy.The Doctor can refer you to the Midwife or you may wish to refer yourself directly to one of the community midwife teams which are based at the community hospital.

Our patients are usually booked with either the team based in Llanidloes Hospital or at Llandrindod Wells Hospital. Each unit will have an on-call midwife at all times who can be contacted through the Call Centre Telephone  01874 622443, 24 hours day 365 days a year.  The Midwives can refer any problems that arise back to the GP or directly to the Consultant Obstetrician.

Routine postnatal care is provided by the community midwives and Health Visitors takes over the care when the baby is 10 days old. The Health Visitor takes over the care when the baby and management of minor ailments. The clinic is in the surgery every Monday afternoon and reception staff will take messages for her in between.
